Hey guys,

I wanted to start a thread to actually get an idea of how realistic a comeback to CoD2 is. Personally, I havn't seen that many negative reactions regarding this topic and I have to say, I am quite shocked! I would love nothing more than CoD2 to make a return because it certainly has the most potential out of all the CoD games to be extremely competitive as it once was.

If you think back to the closing months of CoD2, you will realise that the game was in no way inactive or whatever, that simply CoD4 took its place in the spotlight of all CoD gamers. Which is totally understandable considering the new playstyle, improved graphics and the modern warfare style of gameplay. The hype was outstanding and that was backed up by SK/MYM/4kings/PGS/fnatic all taking interest in the game. But the hype wasn't enough to keep the game going and so, we are in this situation now as a community discussing what is next for us on the competitive scale of gaming.

I have read some opinions on CoD2 making a comeback, and alot of people are saying there is no way CoD2 can make a return, its old, etc. etc.

But of course, to most of us, we know that these are not valid reasons to lose hope in CoD2 as CS 1.6 has been and really still is on top of the competitive gaming scene even though it has been alive twice as long as CoD2.

One point I would like to make is, back before CoD4 was released, we had a strong, but small community in comparison to other competitive FPS games. But now because CoD4 had its time, the community has grown ever so big in comparison to the CoD2 community in its peek. This would obviously make the game more competitive than it actually was back in its time and I think the reason some people arent keen on the idea of CoD2 making a return, or why some people have doubts that it will actually happen is because: They don't realise the community is alot bigger now than it was back then thus making it alot more attractive for the big organisations to back the game and make it an attractive prospect for LAN's across Europe and America.

I took the time to personally contact the organisers of the famous CoDQCup which was the flagship online tournament for CoD2 for quite some time. Just to see if they would be intersted in doing a CoD2 comeback kind of tournament. Piitz seemed quite keen I have to say and he said he would get back to me after he speaks to deffan about it. So fingers cross this will happen, but whether it does or not, I am sure there is other alternatives.

Another point I would like to make is the amount of maps involved in competitive play in CoD2.

You have: 5 of the usual maps (touj/car/mat/dawn/burg)
But we also have that map we used for CDC#2, created by kleinman, forgive me as I have forgotten the name of it, but fuck it that was a good map!

For CoD4 we had: 5 maps that we used regularly aswell. So there is really not much difference in this department apart from of course the maps in CoD2 are awesome and CoD4 is shit.

Anyways moving on,

This whole thing about CoDTV. As much as I would love CoDTV to be implemented, it just won't happen. It is as simple as that. And let's be frank, We have done without it for long enough and have done great without it so let's not get hung up on that situation. We have great support from QuadV and in CoD2 from The Swede + Co. So the spectator aspect is certainly there, even if it is not as good as a HLTV style client.

I think the thing is, we need to get the ball rolling constructively. We need to get cod2.invite back open. I think the big thing is, if people are keen on CoD2, why not start announcing teams? The sponsors, organisations, LAN organisers will follow what they see in our potential as a community.

I think I have waffled on enough now and I didn't even get to mention CoD2 made it to WSVG near the end of its life, so the game has the potential.
